Setting a festive table that feels like you
Candlelight, mismatched plates and one good platter. A relaxed approach to hosting this Diwali.

The best festive tables look collected, not bought as a set. Plates that do not quite match, a runner you already own, and more candles than you think you need.
Light it low
Unscented pillars down the centre, at different heights, so they never compete with the food. Add diyas along a windowsill or the edge of a sideboard.
Mix your tableware
Use a single colour family and let the glazes vary. Rust, oat and moss plates together look deliberate; bright colours look chaotic.
